    FCAT Pilot Project

Miami Dade College is participating in an FCAT/CPT Pilot Project that allows first-time-in-college (FTIC) early college (dual) enrolled students, and FTIC students who are "prior year" high school graduates, to be exempt from taking the CPT if they earn an FCAT scale score within the ranges listed below (based on the 2005 FCAT scores).

  • Reading 355-500 (equivalent of Level 4 or 5) for Exemption from College Preparatory Reading and placement in ENC 1101.
  • Math 375-500 (equivalent of Level 5) for placement in MAC 1105, MGF 1106, MGF 1107 or STA2023.

    FCAT Notes:

  • MDC implemented the use of FCAT scores on July 16th, 2007.
  • Reading scores will exempt for both the reading and writing sections of the CPT.
  • A passing FCAT score in one subject area may be used with a passing CPT, ACT, or SAT score in another subject area. In addition, the two year valid testing period that is used for the CPT, ACT, or SAT will not be used for the FCAT, since students begin taking the FCAT in 10th grade.
  • FCAT scores that are not downloaded electronically via the Florida Automated System for a Transferring Educational Records (FASTER) into the MDC test master record system will need to be verified by the Campus Testing Department. This is the same process that is used for ACT/SAT scores.
  • Students scoring below the required FCAT ranges will be required to take the CPT for appropriate placement or to provide evidence of exemption through the ACT or SAT if they have earned a minimum of one of the following scores.

Subtest ACT Score SAT Score
English 17 n/a
Math 19** 440*
Reading 18 n/a
Verbal n/a 440
* Placement is MAT 1033. An SAT math score of 500 or higher is needed for MAC 1105, MGF 1106, MGF 1107, or STA 2023.
** Placement is MAT 1033. An ACT math score of 21 or higher is needed for MAC 1105, MGF 1106, MGF 1107, or STA 2023.
