ACT/SAT information: MDC accepts the ACT and SAT. However, please note that the College is not
using the new subtests
for placement testing purposes.

  • ACT - new subtests not used at MDC: Writing, and English & Writing combined
  • SAT - new subtests not used at MDC: Writing, Essay, and Grammar/Usage

SAT notes:

  • The SAT Verbal has been renamed  SAT Critical Reading .
  • The critical reading scores are comparable to the SAT-1 verbal scores and the new math scores are comparable to the SAT-1 math scores.

FCAT information: 
Miami Dade College is participating in an FCAT/CPT Pilot Project that allows first-time-in-college (FTIC), dual enrolled students, and FTIC students who are "prior year" high school graduates, to be exempt from taking the CPT if they earn an FCAT scale score within the ranges listed below (based on the 2005 FCAT scores).
  • Reading 355-500 (equivalent of Level 4 or 5) for Exemption from College Preparatory Reading and placement in ENC 1101.
  • Math 375-500 (equivalent of Level 5) for placement in MAC 1105, MGF 1106, or MGF 1107.
FCAT notes:
  • MDC implemented the use of FCAT scores on July 16th, 2007.
  • Reading scores will exempt for both the reading and writing sections of the CPT.
  • A passing FCAT score in one subject area may be used with a passing CPT, ACT, or SAT score
    in another subject area.  In addition, the two year valid testing period that is used for the CPT,
    ACT, or SAT will not be used for the FCAT, since students begin taking the FCAT in 10th grade.

    will be to expire the score if it was not used for placement 2 years after the student’s high school
    graduation date

  • Students scoring below the required FCAT ranges will be required to take the CPT for appropriate placement or to provide evidence of exemption through the ACT or SAT if they have earned a
    minimum of one of the following scores
    :

    SAT verbal score of 440
    SAT math score of 440*
    ACT reading score of 18
    ACT English score of 17
    ACT math score of 19**

    * Placement is MAT 1033. An SAT math score of 500 or higher is needed for MAC 1105, MGF 1106, or MGF 1107.
    ** Placement is MAT 1033. An ACT math score of 21 or higher is needed for MAC 1105, MGF 1106, or MGF 1107.
  • FCAT scores that are not downloaded electronically will need to be verified by the Campus Testing Department. This is the same process that is used for ACT/SAT scores.
