Our
primary concern in the
School
of Arts and Letters is student success. The faculty, staff and administrators
are committed to the academic success of every student. Since not all people
learn the same way, creative and innovative teaching/learning approaches are
employed, including collaborative learning, learning communities and active
learning strategies. We take our teaching responsibility very seriously and
are dedicated to the goal of delivering the highest quality education by
placing the student at the center of the learning environment.
The variety of
courses offered in the School of
Arts and
Letters includes those that are required for various majors as well as
electives that transfer to upper-division institutions. Our courses are
offered in different time blocks and days of the week configurations in order
to meet the needs of our students. The School is also home to seven
laboratories and tutorial centers where students can obtain one-on-one
assistance and/or utilize a variety of software designed to enhance classroom
instruction. Activities in these laboratories and tutorial centers empower
students to improve and enhance their speaking, listening, reading, writing
and performing abilities. The schedule in these facilities includes day,
evening and weekend hours.
The School of
Arts and
Letters also provides a diverse array of cultural experiences and literary
events in support of the curriculum. There is a comprehensive program of
artistic, creative and academic development through a curriculum that reflects
the rich multicultural community of Miami and our urban environment. These
activities and events provide enrichment opportunities to our students as well
as to the community.
