THE FULBRIGHT GATEWAY ORIENTATION aims to provide Fulbright students
with the necessary skills and resources to achieve success in their graduate
study experience in the United States, and instill in the group a Fulbright identity.
There are three main components to the orientation: academic skills, graduate student
life, and cross-cultural awareness. The academic skills component includes
sessions on the U.S. academic system, academic integrity and research skills. The
graduate student life component focuses on topics essential to graduate student
adjustment such as time and stress management, psychological and physical health,
legal rights as a non-citizen and tips for getting settled. The cross-cultural awareness
component is a workshop that focuses on understanding both general and
academic culture in the United States.
The Fulbright Gateway Orientation is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s
Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) as part of its flagship Fulbright
Program, the U.S. government’s flagship international exchange program supported
by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world. For
