THE COLLEGE PREP PACE PROGRAM
The College Prep Pathway to Academic Confidence and Excellence (PACE) program is designed for first time in college students who are required to take college prep reading and/or writing courses.
PACE students will work together in groups or cohorts while completing their first-semester coursework in an academic supportive environment.
The goal of the program is to:
- Support students as they complete their first semester of college through a positive learning experience
- Motivate students to graduate by focusing on academic and career goals
- Help students earn college credits while completing their college prep requirements
Students who participate in cohort programs:
- Perform better in their first semester courses
- Successfully finish their first semester at a higher rate than their non-cohort peers
- Complete their certificate or degree programs at a higher and faster rate than their non-cohort peers
Benefits of Participating in the PACE Program
- Faster completion of college prep courses
- Ideal scheduling
- Specialized advising program
- Free additional reading and/or writing skills review and instruction if desired
- Attainment of credits that count towards a degree
- Free scheduled academic support for courses through the Academic Resource Center
- Motivational activities, contests and prizes throughout the semester
- Assigned mentors for one academic year
Eligibility
- To participate in the PACE program, you must:
- Be a new MDC student as of Fall 2012.
- Be a full-time student in the Fall 2012 semester.
- Attain the required placement test scores.
*EAP program completers are eligible to participate in the PACE program.

PACE students will be registered into different groups based on their placement scores. All groups meet the program's goals and provide students with an enriching first-semester academic experience.
