    Associate in Science Degree in Paralegal Studies

    The MDC A.S. Degree in Paralegal Studies has been approved by the American Bar Association since 1987

The program also meets the standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE), the leading national professional association for paralegal education of which the college is a member. This approval is very important because it means that the program has met very high standards of accountability. The A.S. Degree in Paralegal Studies is a highly respected credential in the legal community.

Graduates of the Paralegal Studies Program should:
  • have a greater understanding of the paralegal profession as well as its role within the legal community;
  • be able to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for transactions with clients, attorneys, other paralegal professionals, court personnel and third parties;
  • be able to handle basic legal transactions; demonstrate a solid understanding of the basic substantive areas of the law, as well as legal research and writing; and
  • conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner.

In addition, credits earned in the program will transfer to other approved institutions. Transfer of credits is a rewarding factor for those students who choose to complete a four-year degree.
