Professor Ana M. Cruz received her B.B.A. in Accounting from Florida International University and her M.B.A. from St. Thomas University. Currently, she is completing her D.B.A. in Accounting at Nova Southeastern University. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a field examiner of corporate, partnership, trust and complex individual income tax returns. In addition, she has a vast experience in private industry, specifically in manufacturing, service and retail companies where she held various types of management positions.

Her teaching interests include financial accounting, managerial accounting with emphasis on the management process, and taxation. She has been very active in many college and outside committees including Scholarship Committee, Discipline Committee, SOAP Appeals Committee, College-wide Occupational Task Force, College-wide Oral Communication Committee, Miami Book Fair International, 1995 Leadership Hallmark in Higher Education, 1995 AICPA State Society Member Roundtable, the Florida Department of Education Curriculum Framework for the accounting program in the vocational area, the Florida Business Technology Education Restructuring Committee, FIU/M-DCC Accounting Faculty Committee, IRS Citizen Advocacy Panel and several other committees.

Professor Cruz initiated in 1994 the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program as part of a service learning module in her income tax class. The objectives of the program are to help students understand the importance of business integrity, civic responsibility, and ethical behavior when engaging in a business endeavor. Ever since its inception, the VITA program has been praised numerous times by the Internal Revenue Service.

Furthermore, her participation in students' activities has been extensive and include the following:

Professional Organizations: American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Cuban-American CPAs Assoc., American Accounting Association (AAA) and Miami Lakes Business Association.

Publications: Co-author of Nina Decorating House: A Financial Accounting Practice Case; Southwestern Publishing Co., Cincinnati, Ohio, 2002. Journal Article in the Business Education Forum (NBEA), "The Use of a Service Learning Activity to motivate Students in the Accounting Courses", December 2001.

Recognition: The Southeast Banking Corporation Foundation Teaching Chair in 1998, Ambassador of Goodwill in September of 1999 and the IRS CAP Service Award in 2000.
