A Word of Caution When Traveling in Downtown Miami

Currently there is a massive reconstruction project going on throughout the downtown area.  Please keep the following cautions in mind:

  1. Give yourself plenty of time to get where you need to go:  Streets can be blocked off to allow construction cranes to be moved or for cement trucks to drop off loads of cement.

  1. Watch your step because sidewalks are being repaved.

  1. It is helpful to call the Main ACCESS telephone number should you run into problems and need someone to guide you to the Department: (305) 237-3072.

Driving From I-95 North or South

You should see signs for MDC, Wolfson Campus, just follow these signs.

You want to get off I-95 and get to NW 5th Street heading east towards Biscayne Boulevard (US #1).

If you stay in the left lane on NE 5th Street, you will come to an 11-story parking garage after you go through the intersection at NE 3rd Avenue.   You will see the entrances to the parking garage.  Just stop and let the public safety officer know you are attending a meeting at the ACCESS Department.  After you park, take the elevators down and exit the garage on the NE 2nd Avenue side and walk two blocks south to Building One which is a 7-story modernistic grey building that is the main administration building for the Campus.  ACCESS is in the ACCESS-MEED Center (Room 1180 or 1181) which is street level on the corner of NE 2nd Ave and NE 3rd Street and you can either enter the MEED end of the hallway on NE 2nd Avenue or the ACCESS entrance on the NE 3rd Street side.  Just check in at the Reception Desk and you will be assisted from there.

Taking the Rails and Movers coming from North of downtown

From TriRail, Connect to Metrorail South at the 79th Street station.

Exit Metrorail at Government Center and go down one level to the MetroMover.  Be sure to go to the Inner Loop side, enter the MetroMover and get off at the College/Bayside Station (and go down on the south side of this station to the street) and then cross NE 2nd Ave to Building One (or 1000) which is a 7-story modernistic grey building that is the main administration building for the Campus.

Taking the Metrorail coming from South of downtown

Take the Metrorail North and exit at Government Center.  At Government Center, go down one level to the MetroMover.

Special Transportation Service (STS)

If you are using STS, arrange to be dropped off at 300 NE 2nd Avenue on the corner of NE 2nd Avenue and NE 3rd Street.  It is best to have the driver turn onto NE 3rd Street since the College has a drop off area that is usually accessible and directly next to the entrance to the ACCESS Department.

Special Parking arrangements:

If you need to park as close as possible to the ACCESS-MEED Center please call the Director at (305) 237-3371 for specific instructions.  There is a Public Parking Garage directly across NE 3rd Street although there is a fee for parking.  There is also a Public Parking Lot on Biscayne Boulevard that is between NE 4th Street and NE 3rd Street on the west side of the street.  The fee for this lot varies but you can park most of the day for about $5 or $6 and then just walk around the College/Bayside Metromover Station and Building One is right across the street.

At times there are parking spots with a kiosk for purchasing parking passes for a number of hours of on-street parking right next to Building One.  However, these are the least protected parking areas and if you do park in these areas, be certain to hide all valuables from view.
