About Us

Our Community

Founded in 2000, Year Up has served more than 19,500 young adults across 21 cities, offering the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their full potential through professional careers and higher education. We do this in partnership with visionary colleges and corporate partners, creating a network that is invested in the long term success of our young adults.

How it Works 6 months Learning & Development | 6 months at internship

Students begin the program with 6 months of rigorous, hands-on learning, in partnership with Miami Dade College. The skills they gain reflect the technical and professional skill needs of our local corporate partners. Following Learning & Development, 100% of qualified students earn a 6 month internship to gain real world experience.

Ongoing Support

Alongside the resources offered by the college, Year Up supports students with staff advisors, mentors, tutors, and our Student Services team composed of trained social workers who are ready to step up to provide extra support as needed. What is most powerful, however, is the tight-knit community that our young adults build while at Year Up—they support, challenge, and hold each other accountable beyond their year up.

Before Year Up, my family struggled to make ends meet. Despite setbacks, I remained positive, responsible, and ambitious. The hardest and best thing I learned from the program was that everything counts, from not completing an assignment, to being one minute late. Now, as a Retail Sales Consultant at AT&T, I’ve been recognized as one of the top 10% salespeople in my district and was selected for a leadership program. I’m more capable of helping my family and strive to someday be an Ambassador to Haiti. I see myself as an agent of change in the Year Up movement – one more layer to strengthen the bridge that will close the Opportunity Divide.
