Campus Presidents


Hialeah Campus - Dr. Mattie Roig-Watnik

Matilde-Roig-Watnik-ThumbDr. Mattie Roig-Watnik is the president of Miami Dade College’s Hialeah Campus, located in the heart of Hialeah and serving the local communities. Dr. Roig-Watnik has served in various capacities throughout her career as faculty and administrative positions. She began her teaching career in 1990 at Miami Dade College and has presented in national conferences on effective teaching, learning, and data analysis. She holds a B.S. in biology with a minor in philosophy and chemistry, an MST from Rutgers University in biology with physiology and microbiology concentrations, and her Ed.D. from Walden University in teacher leadership.

Homestead Campus - Dr. Jeanne F. Jacobs

Jacobs_Jeanne-175_175Dr. Jeanne F. Jacobs is the president of Miami Dade College's Homestead Campus, located in the downtown business district of the City of Homestead. Dr. Jacobs came to MDC from Sinclair Community College in Ohio, where she served as vice president for instruction and dean of liberal arts and sciences. She holds a doctor of philosophy degree in administration of higher education with a minor in English from the University of Alabama.

InterAmerican Campus - Dr. Joanne Bashford

Joanne-Bashford_Thumb Dr. Joanne Bashford is the president of Miami Dade College's InterAmerican Campus, located in historic Little Havana. Dr. Bashford began her community college career at MDC in 1992 and served the college in various roles, including strategic planning, institutional effectiveness, and institutional research. From 2012 to 2014, she served as the Associate Vice President for Developmental Education and Student Success at Broward College. Dr. Bashford has also served as a consultant for the Achieving the Dream initiative since 2005 and consulted with numerous colleges on planning, assessment, and continuous improvement to improve student success. Dr. Bashford holds a doctorate in education from Florida International University, a master’s degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Florida.

Kendall Campus - Dr. Lourdes Oroza

Dr. Lourdes Oroza is the President of Miami Dade College's Kendall Campus, located in the Southwest area of Miami-Dade County.  She has served MDC in various capacities since 1998, including dean of Academic Affairs at the Wolfson campus and chairperson of the departments of Business, Computer Information Systems, and Community Education at the InterAmerican Campus.  From 2008 to 2010, she served as the provost of Broward College, Judson A. Samuels South Campus.  Dr. Oroza holds a doctorate in adult education and human resource development from Florida International University, a master's degree in education from the University of Miami, and a bachelor's degree in French from Tulane University.  She was twice recognized as a Kellogg Foundation Leadership Fellow and serves on the board of the National Community College Hispanic Council.

Medical Campus - Dr. Armando Ferrer

Dr. Armando FerrerDr. Armando J. Ferrer is the president of Miami Dade College's Medical Campus. Dr. Ferrer has served MDC for more than 30 years in various capacities, including dean of students at North and Kendall campuses. He holds a doctorate in higher education from the University of Miami.

Wolfson Campus - Dr. José A. Vicente

Dr. José A. VicenteDr. José A. Vicente is the president of Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus. Dr. Vicente has served MDC in various capacities since 1973, including as founding president of the InterAmerican Campus. He holds an Ed.D. in higher education administration from Nova Southeastern University and he has engaged in post-doctoral studies at Harvard University and at the JFK School of Government.

North Campus - Ms. Malou C. Harrison

Ms. Malou Harrison Malou C. Harrison is the president of Miami Dade College's North Campus and also oversees MDC-West. She has served MDC in various capacities since 1989, including as dean of students, chief of staff to the College president and adjunct professor of English for academic purposes. Prior to her tenure at MDC, she served as a student services administrator at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is completing a doctorate in community college leadership at Walden University and has shared her expertise as co-author of scholarly articles in the League for Innovation in the Community College's Student Services Dialogues: Community College Case Studies to Consider, as well as the Association of American College and Universities' (AAC&U) Peer Review: Models for Student success: Developing a Community College Student Roadmap.
