Free Lunchtime Literary Readings Part of the Florida Center for the Literary Arts’ Writers Institute

Features Award-Winning Writers, such as Nick Flynn, Rick Moody, Connie May Fowler

Miami, April 25, 2008 - Get inspired at the Florida Center for the Literary Arts’ (FCLA) lunchtime reading series during the annual Writers Institute at Miami Dade College (MDC) May 7 to 10. Award-winning writers will read from their current works and discuss the art of fiction, memoir and poetry. The literary readings are free and open to the public. Lunch is included for participants registered for the Writers Institute workshops. 

The readings will take place from 12 to 1:30 p.m. in Room 2106 and the schedule is as follows: 
• Nick Flynn (Another Bullshit Night in Suck City), T Cooper (Lipshitz Six—or—Two Angry Blondes), Connie May Fowler (The Problem with Murmur Lee ) and poet Kevin Young: Wed., May 7, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
• Rick Moody, Felicia Luna Lemus (Trace Elements of Random Tea Parties) and Micol Ostow: Thurs., May 8, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
• “What Is Memoir?” presented by Nick Flynn, Connie May Fowler and Rick Moody (Garden State): Fri., May 9, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
• Playwright’s readings with Che’rae Adams and workshop participants: Sat., May 10, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
The annual Writers Institute at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, located at 300 NE Second Ave., features four days of intensive workshops in nonfiction, fiction, playwriting, poetry, publishing, and revision taught by experienced visiting writers from around the world. There will also be a Spanish-language workshop on writing fiction, as well as a teens-only workshop.

Registration is ongoing, though space is limited. Some events are on a first-come basis and some classes require early submission of manuscripts.
