MDC's Hospitality Director Shelly Fano Elected Vice Chairperson of the Visitor Industry Council

Miami, March 25, 2009 - Shelly Fano, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) director of hospitality management was recently elected Vice Chairperson of the Visitor Industry Council (VIC).

“We look forward to her leadership and are confident that the Visitor Industry Council will benefit from her knowledge, skills and unwavering commitment to us,” said Graylyn Swilley, executive director of the VIC.

An MDC employee since 2001, Fano has helped to further develop the college’s hospitality management program by securing several grants, including one from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In addition, she works closely with a Miami Dade County Public Schools mentor program and is on the executive board of the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism.

“Our very hard work of building recognition for the Miami Dade College Hospitality Management Program and its vital enrollment growth over the past several years continues to be reflected in academic, civic and industry votes of assurance such as this latest appointment,” said Fano.

“I am honored and extremely proud of the work my team at Miami Dade College has done to help us achieve the continued trust and confidence from industry, the community and our many colleagues.”
