MDC Professor Wins Florida Campus Compact’s Community Engagement Award

Miami Dade College nursing professor Constance Miller.

Miami, September 13, 2010 - Miami Dade College (MDC) nursing professor Constance Miller is the 2010 recipient of Florida Campus Compacts’ Community Engagement Educator Award.

Miller will be formally recognized for her achievements during the organization’s Awards Gala on Sept. 30, 2010 at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, Florida.

The Community Engagement Educator Award recognizes and honors one outstanding individual in each of the three higher education sectors (state universities, state/community colleges, independent colleges and universities) for significant contributions to the institutionalization of community engagement.

The award winners include individuals who are in the trenches, forging sustainable campus-community partnerships that enhance the collegiate experience and help students become stronger and more active citizens.

Florida Campus Compact hosts several awards programs each year under different categories. Each of the awards recognize the outstanding work of faculty, administrators, service coordinators, AmeriCorps*VISTAs, community partners and others who make substantial contributions to support engaged scholarship.

A senior associate professor in MDC’s School of Nursing, Miller has been at the College for more than 20 years and has worked on a variety of community service projects. She was a key component in the opening of the MDC and Miami Rescue Mission clinic in 2009.

Miller has a Master’s degree in nursing education from Barry University. “I believe that every individual has the potential to achieve their dreams through hard work and determination,” said Miller.
