Miami Dade College President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón Receives Univision’s 2012 Corazón Award
Awards Honor Outstanding Leadership in the U.S. Hispanic Community

Known for his outstanding commitment to community service and the empowerment of the Hispanic community, Miami Dade College (MDC) President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón has been honored by Univision with its 2012 Community Corazón Award for Leader of the Year.
The United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) received the Community Corazón Award for Organization of the Year.
“Univision is honored to present the 2012 Community Corazón Award for Organization of the Year to the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute and the Leadership Award to Dr. Padrón, Miami Dade College’s president,” said Cesar Conde president, Univision Networks. “We commemorate USHLI and Eduardo for their commendable efforts to promote civic participation and increase educational attainment. Their unwavering commitment and contributions to the Hispanic community and future leaders in the United States make both, USHLI and Eduardo, deserving of this recognition.”
Dr. Padrón’s has served as president of Miami Dade College, the nation’s largest institution of higher education, since 1995. His energetic leadership also extends to many of the nation’s leading organizations. He is the chair of the prestigious American Council on Education and immediate past chair of the Association of American Colleges and Universities. He also serves on the boards of the Federal Reserve; Council on Foreign Relations and the Business/Higher Education Forum among other major national organizations. During his career, he has also been selected to serve on posts of national prominence by six American Presidents, most recently as chair of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans by President Obama. Padrón was also recently named one of TIME magazine’s “10 Best College Presidents,” one of the eight most “influential college leaders” in the U.S. in the Washington Post and the “Floridian of the Year” by Florida Trend magazine.
President Padrón is the recipient of dozens of major awards during his four decade career including the “2008 Charles Kennedy Equity Award” from the Association of Community College Trustees; the “2008 Reginald Wilson Diversity Leadership Award” of American Council on Education; the “2008 Innovator of the Year” from the League for Innovation; the “2005 Paul A. Elsner Award for International Excellence” from the Chair Academy; and others. Most recently, he was awarded the “2011 Centennial Academic Leadership Award” from the Carnegie Corporation and “2012 National Citizen Service Award” from Voices for National Service.
Internationally, President Padrón’s accomplishments have been recognized by numerous nations and organizations including the Republic of France, which named him Commandeur in the Ordre des Palms Académiques; the Republic of Argentina, which awarded him the Order of San Martin; and Spain’s King Juan Carlos II, who bestowed upon him the Order of Queen Isabella.
Miami Dade College is the nation’s largest institution of higher education with an enrollment of more than 174,000 students.
