MDC Tower Theater Presents Academy Award Nominated Film, Footnote
The film is being shown in South Florida exclusively at the Tower Theater
Miami, March 23, 2012 -
(Hearat Shulayim), by Joseph Cedar, the story of a great rivalry between a father and son, will premiere exclusively at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Tower Theater on Friday, March 30.
Nominated for a Best Foreign Language Academy Award, and winner of Best Screenplay at Cannes Film Festival, it explores the relationship between Eliezer and Uriel Shkolnik, both eccentric professors who have dedicated their lives to their work in Talmudic Studies. The father, Eliezer, is a stubborn purist who fears the establishment and has never been recognized for his work. His son, Uriel, is an up-and-coming star in the field, who appears to feed on accolades, endlessly seeking recognition. When the dour Eliezer is mistakenly informed that he has won a major prize that, in fact, is intended for his son, the tables turn, and Footnote delves into the insane competition, the dichotomy between admiration and envy for a role model, and the very complicated relationship between a father and son. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Timeshailed it as “one of the smartest and most merciless comedies to come along in a while.”
