Miami Dade College North Campus Presents El Libro de Ruth (The Book of Ruth) July 13 – 29

Miami, June 29, 2012 - During  the month of July, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus’ Actors Arena will present El libro de Ruth, written by playwright and journalist Mario Diament and directed by Max Ferrá. The play recounts the memories of an old woman who at a young age left her loved ones behind and fled to Buenos Aires to escape the Nazi Occupation of her native Poland. The play is in Spanish and is free and open to the public.

Ruth’s recollection of moments in her life focuses on three points in its history: her childhood in Warsaw, at age 10; her youth, at 20, when she left her loved ones and her true love to escape death; and the maturity of 40, when she finds herself with a son in tow and married to a man who does not love her. Throughout these recollections comes the evitable recognition that she has reached old age.

"Actors Arena, under the direction of Max Ferrá, continues to surpass expectations in the quality of the Spanish acting program. The students in this program are not only learning the basic foundations of being a great actor, but they are able to showcase their talents through performances such as El Libro de Ruth”, said Dr. José Vicente, president of the North Campus.

The piece, inspired by the author's mother, does not intend to reproduce clinically the effect of memory diseases such as Alzheimer's or arteriosclerosis, but rather seek his theatrical equivalent, that is, the ability to tell a story dramatically by altering the chronology. The scenes constantly alternate between drama and humor.
