Miami Dade College’s Homestead Campus Hosts Kristallnacht Remembrance Event Nov. 9
Miami, October 19, 2012 -
The Holocaust and genocide education programs and activities at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Homestead Campus have steadily grown in popularity with students and the community over the last five years. This year, MDC will once again host a Kristallnacht commemoration event at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9.
Kristallnacht, or Night of Broken Glass, was series of coordinated attacks against Jews throughout Nazi Germany and parts of Austria in 1938. The attacks left the streets covered with broken glass from the windows of Jewish-owned stores and buildings, hence the name. Approximately 91 Jews were killed in the attacks, and another 30,000 were arrested and sent to concentration camps.
The guest speakers will be Dr. Bernd Wollschlaeger, author, family practitioner, and past president of the Dade County Medical Association , and Ms. Eva Alexandra Countess Kendeffy, the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany. Both speakers will discuss their personal stories as they have come to terms with Germany’s Nazi past.
This program is free and open to the public.
