MDC InterAmerican Campus Dean of Students Named Chair of ConnectFamilias Board of Directors


Miami, November 29, 2012 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) InterAmerican Campus Dean of Students, Dr. Lourdes M. Perez, has been appointed chairperson of the ConnectFamilias Board of Directors. Dean Perez was elected for her first term on the Board after serving as a member of the organization’s governance board since 2004.

“Dr. Perez’ appointment reflects ConnectFamilia’s continued commitment to finding the very best community leaders to lead and guide the partnership,” said Linda Callejas, director of strategic innovation at ConnectFamilias. “Her knowledge, skill and expertise will be invaluable to our partnership as we develop and implement our new strategic direction.”

Dean Perez has been at MDC for 30 years, serving during her tenure as Financial Aid director, campus registrar and associate instructor, among other capacities

ConnectFamilias promotes family and community safety by increasing community awareness in Little Havana and surrounding neighborhoods. The organization is built on the premise that children do better when their families are strong, and families do better when they live in places that help them succeed as parents and productive citizens. Its wraparound model of care is designed to improve the well-being of children and families by reducing violence and delivering non-duplicative, culturally appropriate and seamless services.
