The 2012 Wolfson Opera/Musical Theatre Ensemble

Miami, December 3, 2012 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Wolfson Opera/Musical Theatre Ensemble will present the celebrated Christmas-inspired opera, Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 – 15, at the Wolfson Campus Auditorium in downtown Miami.

Amahl and the Night Visitors is the story of a young, mischievous boy named Amahl, who has a knack for telling lies and being defiant to his mother. Their lives are forever changed when the Three Wise Men who, according to the Bible, followed the North Star to Bethlehem to deliver their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to the newborn Christ Child, step up to their door. The visit results in a heartwarming and miraculous encounter that echoes the spirit of the holidays. Menotti’s opera was specifically created with children in mind and is the composer’s own gift to the world.

This production is directed by Amy Ibberson and Dr. Alan Ngim of the Wolfson Campus Arts and Philosophy department, with choreography by Lee Pugh. The MDC Wolfson Opera Ensemble is an intensive program, dedicated to helping young students who are interested in pursuing a career in musical, operatic, and theatrical performances. By taking classes in all major music performance and education areas, the program is created in order to expand students’ skills and level of stage experience; thus, giving each student the necessary skills in order to become a successful music leader in today’s music industry.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for MDC students, faculty and staff with proper ID. They can be purchased by sending an email to sdardon@mdc.edu. Tickets may be picked up at the music office in room 3418-11 (Building 3, fourth floor) or at will call the night of the show. Tickets can also be purchased at the door prior to the show.
