Miami Dade College’s Medical Campus Receives a Grant for its Wellness Clinic to Expand Services and Community Impact

MDC's Medical Campus' Wellness Clinic offers low-cost health service to students and community

Miami, February 4, 2013 - The Wellness Clinic at Miami-Dade College’s (MDC) Medical Campus will soon expand its operations, thanks to a significant grant from Health Foundation of South Florida.  The recently-established facility – already providing health-care and wellness services to students -- will also be able to serve MDC employees and the community at large, in the near future.

The nurse-managed infirmary – working in conjunction with the Miami Rescue Mission Clinic in Overtown – offers preventative care including physicals, drug screens, and gynecological services, among other types of medical support.  It will primarily serve low-income residents who are uninsured or under-insured.  Students at the Medical Campus also benefit from the clinic’s expansion by earning credits for “making rounds.”

“The community and our students will be the primary beneficiaries of this wonderful gift,” said Medical Campus President Armando Ferrer. “The funding will allow the campus to begin offering our community, staff, and students primary care services they may otherwise go without.”

The grant is for $60,000.
