Gayot Names Tuyo among the 2013 Hot 40 Restaurants in the U.S.

Since 1969, Gayot has been providing witty reviews on worldwide restaurants, hotels, travel, spas, and more. Recently, the internationally-renowned online guide announced its 2013 Hot 40 Restaurants in the U.S., including our very own Tuyo restaurant, the crown jewel of Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Culinary Institute (MCI).
Gayot selected 40 of the most buzz-worthy restaurants that showcase bold cuisine, chic cocktails and the sharpest chefs. Tuyo shares the ranks with some of the most celebrated restaurants in the country.

Tuyo is led by legendary Chef Van Aken, internationally known as “the founding father of New World Cuisine” for his celebration of Latin, Caribbean, Asian, African, and American flavors. He is also regarded for introducing the concept of “fusion” to the culinary world, and is the only Floridian to be inducted into the prestigious James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food and Beverage in America. Chef Van Aken is also the author of five cookbooks, a memoir that will be released this fall and currently has a weekly radio show on WLRN called A Word on Food.
Offering the most spectacular views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline, Tuyo focuses on environmentally sound practices that draw upon both locally-grown ingredients and selections from the MCI’s edible organic garden. Its ever-evolving menu fuses Latin American, Caribbean, Asian, African, and American flavors.
