Miami Dade College’s Early Childhood Education Program Receives NAEYC’s Full Accreditation

~National association sets standard of excellence in early childhood teacher education

Miami, May 21, 2013 - Miami Dade College (MDC) School of Education recently received full accreditation from the prestigious National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for its four Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education (AS-ECE) programs: general, infant/toddler, preschool, and education administration. MDC is the only higher learning institution in the country offering four NAEYC accredited early childhood education programs.

“MDC has always had the reputation of being a leader in Early Childhood Education. This recognition affirms the excellence of our programs and honors the work of our faculty. It is our gift to the children and future generations of children in Miami-Dade County,” said MDC School of Education Director Dr. Susan Neimand.

NAEYC’s accreditation system establishes professional preparation standards to raise the quality of early childhood teacher education, and in turn raise the quality of early education programs serving young children. Accredited associate degree programs provide access to the profession and a strong foundation for the diverse pool of early childhood teachers that are needed in the field.

Established in 1926, the NAEYC is the largest and most influential advocate for high-quality early care and education in the U.S., representing many of the stakeholders in early childhood education, from preschool and college teachers to policy makers and advocates. A total of 186 programs have been accredited in 30 states since the NAEYC’s accreditation system was launched in 2006. An additional 112 associate degree programs are currently engaged in the self-study program. To learn more, please visit
