Miami Dade College’s North Campus to Present Moliere’s Las mujeres sabias throughout July
MDC's North Campus Presents Las mujeres sabias
Miami, July 5, 2013 -
Students in the Actor’s Arena program at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) North Campus will perform Las mujeres sabias (The Learned Ladies), under the direction of Professor Max Ferrá. The play, written by French comedian and actor Moliere, is a satire on academic pretention and female education.
In Las mujeres sabias, Moliere takes aim at what he considers one of the worst evils of his time: hypocrisy. The play centers on the courtship between Henriette and Clitandre. The bride’s mother, aunt, and sister (The Learned Ladies) wish for her to marry a scholar with lofty aspirations. For these three women, learning and culture of the most pretentious kind is their obsession.
"We are extremely proud of the accolades received by Actors Arena, under the direction of Max Ferrá. The quality of this Spanish-acting program continues to exceed all our expectations,” said Dr. José A. Vicente, president of the North Campus.
Las mujeres sabias’ performances will be in Spanish, and are free and open to the public. The presentations will take place at the William & Joan Lehman Theatre at the North Campus, 11380 NW 27 Avenue.
