Miami-Dade County League of Cities Awards Scholarships to Three Miami Dade College Political Science Majors

Miami, September 6, 2013 - Three Miami Dade College (MDC) students won scholarships/paid internships from the Miami-Dade County League of Cities (MDCLC). Jeffrey Romeu, Daniella Candurra and Esperanta Jean-Charles were recently honored during a League meeting at the Miami Outboard Club on Watson Island.  

MDC and the MDCLC have a long-standing history of collaborating. Since 2007, the MDCLC gives MDC students the opportunity to participate and become involved in government through its scholarship/internship program, designed for majors in social science, political science, public administration, or a related field. Students are nominated by faculty. The scholarships are worth $1,000 each.

Meet this year’s MDCLC scholarship recipients:

Jeffrey Romeuis a political science major at the Hialeah Campus. He is currently the president of the Hialeah Campus Student Government Association (SGA), vice president of Phi Theta Kappa, and state secretary for the Florida College System SGA. His internship is with the City of Hialeah.

Political science major, Daniella Candurra, attends the North Campus Honors College. She is in Phi Theta Kappa and is a STEM Ambassador. Candurra has interned with the City of Miami's Mayor's International Council and the Miami Council for International Visitors. Her internship is with the Town of Miami Lakes.  

Esperanta Jean-Charles, Wolfson Campus, is also a political science major. She is the former president of the Florida Public Service Association and has completed internships with the City of Aventura Police Department and U.S. Congressional campaign. Her internship is with the City of Miami Beach.
