Miami, October 28, 2013 - Prometeo Theatre, a component of The Center for Literature and Theatre at Miami Dade College (MDC), will take part in The Latina/o Theatre Commons national gathering of Latino/a theatre-makers, the largest formal gathering of its kind since 1986. The national event will be held at Emerson College in Boston with five satellite sites throughout the country. Prometeo Theatre will serve as the Miami site on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1 and 2.

The national gathering at Emerson, from Oct. 31 – Nov. 2, is supported by HowlRound, committed to modeling a commons-based approach to advancing the health and impact of the not-for-profit theatre. HowlRound will livestream the event at howlround.tv

The event also will bring together veteran and emerging Latina/o actors, directors, producers, playwrights, designers, and scholars representing all U.S. regions. They will explore the history, current challenges, opportunities, and visions for Latina/o theatre-makers in the 21st century. Participants will seek to advance the state of Latina/o theatre-making through sharing artistic, organizing, and institutional wisdom. Strategies will be identified to seed collaborations and strengthen the burgeoning network of Latina/o theatre artists.

Satellite sites will include Latina/o theater-makers from their community, who will join a videoconference via Skype to watch the plenary session Saturday morning, and for a special convening session on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 12:45 to 2 p.m. EDT. This session will feature reports from each region about the ongoing Latina/o theater initiatives, as well as cross-country conversation.

In related news, MDC’s Prometeo Theatre, the nation’s oldest and most respected Spanish-language theater training program within a higher education institution, is celebrating its 40th anniversary Nov. 13.
