Miami Dade College’s Director of Learning Resources Elisa Abella Named Senior Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals


Miami, December 4, 2013 -

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Medical Campus’ Learning Resources Director Elisa Abella has been named a Senior Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP).

 Abella joined MDC 18 years ago as a librarian at the Medical Campus. Prior to working for the college, she was a corporate librarian at various local health care systems. She has a Master’s degree in Library Science from Florida State University, as well as an MBA from St. Thomas University.

The AHIP is a professional development and career recognition program of the Medical Library Association (MLA). To achieve the organization’s senior member status, Abella participated in many professional and academic programs. She’s published articles for MLA, presented at national conferences and led global outreach initiatives. Among her achievements is a trip to Africa in 2010, where she used her skills as a medical librarian to assess the resources at local institutions, and make recommendations for improvement.
