US-Brazil Connect Accepting Applications from Miami Dade College Students for Month-long Summer Fellowship Program, Jan. 30 Deadline

Miami, January 14, 2014 - Miami Dade College (MDC) students interested in a four-week cross-cultural leadership experience in Brazil are urged to apply for the 2014 US-Brazil Connect Fellowship  program by the Jan. 30 deadline. As part of the summer program, fellows serve in a leadership role to help facilitate a fun English immersion environment for Brazilian high school students.

To apply, students must complete the program’s three-page application form and submit a copy of their unofficial transcripts, two letters of recommendation and a disciplinary form. MDC students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, 12 college credits, not be in violation of Student Code of Conduct, and received a grade of C or higher in ENC1101. In order to be considered for the program, students must send completed applications by email to OR U.S. Mail to MDC’s Office of International Education, 300 NE 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33132, Suite 1403-1, no later than January 30, 2014.

The fellowship provides a stipend for the month, airfare, meals, ground transportation, and cultural activities.  Students will need to pay tuition for the required 3 credit IDS 1044 Leadership Seminar summer course at MDC, health insurance (approx. $38), visa requirements if applicable, vaccinations and personal expenses.

Brazil is the world’s seventh-largest economy and the home of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. MDC students do not need to speak Portuguese to apply, but must be prepared to work hard, solve problems and contribute to building a supportive community.

Fellows represent a wide range of educational backgrounds. In addition to exploring Brazil, they build skills in global leadership and create life-changing relationships. Prior to departure fellows must complete orientation and training and register for a summer section of IDS 1044 Leadership Seminar.
