Miami Dade College Offers Important Jeanne Clery Act Training Seminar on Campus Safety Feb. 20 & 21

Miami, February 26, 2014 - Campus safety administrators from Miami Dade College (MDC) and throughout Florida recently joined law enforcement professionals and campus security experts for the Jeanne Clery Act Training Seminar at MDC’s Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami. The Pennsylvania-based Clery Center for Security on Campus offers the federally required training each year at colleges throughout the U.S.

“As the nation’s largest institution of higher education, it is our utmost priority to keep the thousands of students who come through our corridors safe,” said Anthony Bradley, MDC’s director of emergency preparedness. “We gained even more knowledge and tools from the training seminar to further improve our safety procedures and refine our reporting protocols to ensure federal compliance.”

This year’s seminar at MDC was titled A Collaborative Approach: Best Practices, Resources & Commitment to the Letter & Spirit of the Law.  Designed by a multidisciplinary team of campus law enforcement and student affairs experts, the training offered a wealth of information on safety precautions and reporting techniques aimed at keeping members of the college campus community safe.

 Seminar presentations included:

• Emergency Response & Alerting Your Campus Community

• The Four W’s of Crime Reporting (Who, Where, When & What)

• Building a Safer Campus Community (Prevention Education & Sexual Violence Guidelines)

• Bringing It All Together in the Annual Security Report
