Miami Dade College Professor Sarah Garman Wins National eLearning Award

(MDC) professor Sarah Garman travelled recently to Orlando to receive the Instructional Technology Council (ITC) 2014 Award for Excellence in eLearning: Outstanding Fully-Online Course. ITC is an affiliated council
of the Association of American Community Colleges and represents nearly 400 institutions that offer distance education courses to their students globally.
“The excellence in teaching, mentoring, and innovation exhibited by Professor Garman speaks volumes about her genuine commitment to empowering students to learn and grow,” said Malou C. Harrison, North Campus president.
No stranger to accolades, this North Campus instructor has also been the recipient of a number of awards, including the Steven Sutnick Endowed Teaching Chair and the League of Innovation John and Suanne Roueche National Excellence Award. In 2013, she won the Gold Award for the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) International Awards competition in the category for Best Practices for Excellence in Distance Learning Teaching for redesigning a Humanities online course in an effort to engage students.
Whether in or outside of the classroom, Professor Garman has honed and generously shared an array of teaching and student-teacher relationship skills and strategies that have consistently resulted in significantly high, student retention and completion and rates that have gained her the admiration of both students and colleagues alike.
