Miami Dade College Recently Hosted the Miami International Festival of the Arts

North & Meek - MIFA 2014 L

Miami, March 31, 2014 - The Miami International Festival of the Arts 2014 (MIFA) recently dazzled audiences with theater performances, art exhibitions, panel discussions, and film screenings at Miami Dade College’s North Campus and the Carrie P. Meek Entrepreneurial Center.

A special highlight of MIFA 2014 was the screening of the Academy Award®-winning documentary, Undefeated, followed by a Q&A session with the film’s director, TJ Martin.  Undefeated follows the inspiring and moving tale of three underprivileged student-athletes and their football coach from inner city Memphis trying to beat the odds on and off the field.

The School of Entertainment & Design Technology and the Dept. of Arts & Philosophy presented Concerto under the Stars, celebrating the very best in classical music and showcasing the talents of the MDC Film Scoring Orchestra.

This year’s activities also explored the world of photography, visual arts, music, dance, and the spoken word. The Power of Words: Panel Readings with Authors gave audiences the opportunity to interact with the professionals and try their hand at the art of literary recitation.

MIFA 2014’s closing ceremony featured the Faculty, Staff & Student Recital and the presentation of this year’s award-winning student work for music, visual arts, and the spoken word.

“This yearly event is a wonderful opportunity to experience truly, high-quality theatrical performances,” said Malou C. Harrison, president of the North Campus. “The Miami International Festival of the Arts is the perfect venue to showcase the extraordinary artistic talents of our students.”
