Miami Dade College’s Acclaimed Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives to Present Classic, Star-Studded Miami Cinema, with Glitz, Glamour & Hoopla, April 3


Miami, March 31, 2014 - As part of Dade Heritage Days, the prestigious Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives at Miami Dade College (MDC) is presenting Glitz, Glamour & Hoopla from 7:30-9 p.m., Thursday, April 3, at Grand Central in downtown Miami. Promising an evening of “old Miami glamour,” the event will showcase dozens of rare film clips through several decades that give a behind-the-scenes look at how the industry filmed and promoted movies in Miami. The event is free and open to the public.

Attendees will see classic actors and entertainers such as Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis and Raquel Welch on location on the big screen, and get an insider’s view of how theater owners promoted their pictures with dazzling, star-studded premiere parties.

Glitz, Glamour & Hoopla is being held as part of Dade Heritage Days, which is now in its 27th year. Sponsored by the Dade Heritage Trust (DHT), the historical-preservation series is an eight-week-long celebration of Miami’s cultural and environmental heritage with over l00 different events. Architectural lectures, boat trips, tours, folk life festivals, student activities and commemorative services seek to unite Miami-Dade County’s multi-ethnic, diverse community through a shared appreciation of Miami’s unique heritage.

About the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives
The Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives is an official moving image repository and archives of the State of Florida and is one of the largest institutions of its kind in the United States.

Housed at MDC’s Wolfson Campus, the Moving Image Archives’ collections span nearly a century, with the earliest materials dating from the 1910s. The Archives is an essential resource for the community, State and nation, and provides unique materials to researchers, film and video producers, and the general public.
