MDC Live Arts Launches Third Live Arts Lab Featuring Taylor Ho Bynum and Rachel Bernsen

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) MDC Live Arts is set to present the third edition of the Live Arts Lab, a professional development laboratory for local working artists. The 2015 Lab will feature acclaimed composer, cornet player and bandleader Taylor Ho Bynum and his partner/collaborator dance educator Rachel Bernsen in a month-long workshop incorporating interdisciplinary collaboration, improvisation, and alternate models of compositional structure. The sessions will cultivate a space of shared risk and creative discovery through exploration of the moment, balancing the pre-determined and the spontaneous.

Miami Dade College Receives Seventh "Great Colleges to Work For" Nod

For the seventh consecutive year, Miami Dade College (MDC) has been named among the nation’s Great Colleges to Work For by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a major higher education publication. Miami Dade College Receives Top Grant Awards from Department of Education of Nearly Half a Million Dollars to Help Students Succeed in Higher Education

The U.S. Department of Education awarded Miami Dade College (MDC) Homestead Campus and North Campus grants of $220,000 and $230,916 respectively. The contributions are aimed at helping increase the number of low-income college students, first-generation students and those with disabilities to successfully complete a program of study at the postsecondary level.

The Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOA+D) proudly announces the opening of Recent Acquisitions + Highlights, its first long format installation containing selections from the College’s vast art collection. The exhibition also marks the opening of the two renovated permanent galleries dedicated specifically to the collection, including works by Alex Katz, Ana Mendieta, Andres Serrano, Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Louise Nevelson, Pat Lipsky, Roy Lichtenstein, William Wegman and many others. The ongoing exhibition will open to the public Wednesday, August 5. Best known for his award-winning novel, Bones, about a poor farm mother who loses her son in the Zimbabwean war of liberation, Chenjerai was the voice of a generation made powerless by the brutality of the Mugabe government.

Miami Dade College’s Museum of Art + Design Presents Distrito Doce (District 12) By Sebastian Muñoz

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design’s (MOA+D) latest swing/SPACE/miami project is an exhibition by Colombian-born artist Sebastian Muñoz. An MDC alumnus, Muñoz presents a new body of work titled Distrito Doce (District 12), a series of photographs based on Miami-Dade County’s District 12 exploring themes of transformation through exploitation. The exhibition will be on view Friday, July 31, through Sept. 20. The exhibition and supporting programs are FREE and open the public. A conversation between the artist and curator will take place at the closing reception Sunday, Sept. 20, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at MOA+D located within the College’s historic Freedom Tower.

MDC’s Teatro Prometeo Presents Cena para Seis during the 30th International Hispanic Theatre Festival of Miami

Miami Dade College’s VITA Program Helps Provide More than $2 million in Refunds

For 21 years, Miami Dade College (MDC) has offered free tax preparation services to low-income individuals, the elderly, and non-English speaking residents through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). This year, 2,409 individual tax returns were filed college wide, amounting to more than $2 million in refunds.

The trailblazing Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex at Miami Dade College (MDC) is offering two cutting-edge summer camps in animation and 3D gaming design for high school students (ages 14-19). The iconic Tower Theater at Miami Dade College(MDC) will present a riveting panorama of contemporary Cuba produced and directed by four young Cuban artists, beginning Saturday, Feb. 28 – Wednesday, March 4. Miami Dade College Wins 2015 Andrew Heiskell Awards for Innovation in International Education

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) approach to removing international barriers and broadening the base of participation in study abroad learning has garnered the Medical Campus an award from the Institute of International Education (IIE). The campus received an Honorable Mention in the category of Internationalizing the Community College, for its Diasporic Knowledge Remittance Study Abroad Program. Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOAD) presents its latest swing/SPACE/miami project with an exhibition by Miami-based artist Alma Leiva. Leiva, an alumnus of New World School of the Arts, will create an interactive installation titled Object of My affection: San Pedro Nos Ve (St. Peter Watches Over Us). A Director’s Preview will be held on Thursday, February 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at MOA+D located within the College’s Historic Freedom Tower. The preview is reserved for museum members, invited guests and MDC/NWSA students. The general public is invited to attend with a $5 donation to the Museum. The exhibition will open to the public on Friday, February 13 through March 22. The exhibition and supporting programs are FREE and open the public.

Miami Dade College’s Museum of Art + Design presents Arrhythmic Suite and Exhibition of New Works by Miami-based artist Odalis Valdivieso

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Museum of Art + Design (MOA+D) will present an exhibition and new body of work titled Arrhythmic Suite by Venezuelan-born, Miami-based artist, Odalis Valdivieso. The exhibition comprises paintings and photographs made from 2014 to the present. The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication of an artist’s book containing images and an essay of writer Federica Bueti and designer Kristin Metho. A Director’s Preview will take place on Thursday, February 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at MOA+D located within the College’s Historic Freedom Tower. The preview is reserved for MOA+D members, invited guests and MDC/NWSA students. The general public is invited to attend with a $5 donation to the museum. Miami Dade College to Host Authors for Holocaust Education Week in February

In collaboration with the Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial’s Holocaust Education Week, Miami Dade College (MDC) will host two author discussions on Tuesday Feb. 24 and Thursday, Feb. 26. The informative, deeply moving discussions will be held at MDC’s Homestead and Kendall campuses and feature a noted author and a Holocaust survivor. The lectures are free and open to the public. MDC is renowned for its holocaust and genocide education program based at the Homestead Campus and with communitywide programs and projects.

Idea Center at Miami Dade College Launches Startup Challenge: Bring Your Ideas to Life!

Miami Dade College’s (MDC) acclaimed entrepreneurship and innovation hub, The Idea Center, kicks off the New Year with an exciting competition to help students achieve their dreams. The Startup Challenge, which runs Jan. 6 – 30, will award winners $5,000 in seed money to start their own businesses. The Challenge is made possible with the support of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Miami Dade College’s Museum of Art + Design in partnership with Word and Image Lab (WAIL) and the Center for Writing & Literature at MDC Present 90 Miles, a project by artist Carlos Alejandro

90 Miles is intended as an interactive installation and dialogue on immigration and human rights. His ongoing crocheting project uses 90 miles of multi- colored yarn, creating a continuous strip totaling approximately 1.5 miles, yet if unraveled the sum is equal to 90 miles, symbolic of the distance between Key West and Cuba.
