In Information Literacy and Database Immersion Part 1 (CTD0340), participants were introduced to a variety of information databases available through the LINCCWeb research portal, and learned how to improve their student's information literacy skills by creating discipline-specific assignments that incorporate the use of at least one database. In Part 2 (for which Part 1 is not a prerequisite), we'll take a closer look at some of the LINCCWeb databases, discuss additional strategies for incorporating information literacy into course assignments and classroom activities, and explore the use of rubrics for assessing information literacy skills. Information Literacy and Database Immersion Part 2 will consist of two face-to-face sessions (two hours each) plus four hours of online activity for a total of eight hours of Professional Development Credit. To receive the credit, participants must attend both face-to-face sessions and complete all assignments.

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Select the most appropriate database(s) to help students develop skills related to information literacy and to specific course competencies
  • Demonstrate the key features of at least one LINCCWeb database
  • Create or adapt a rubric for assessing information literacy as it relates to a specific assignment or classroom activity
