Description:
This workshop will enable faculty who teach community health nursing (NUR 2680L) to understand the pedagogy and logistics
of service-learning and effectively implement it within the course.

* Adjunct faculty will be compensated at a rate of $20.00/hour upon successful completion of the workshop.  While you are welcome to take a workshop more than once, CTD can only compensate adjunct faculty for the first time that they take one of these workshops.


 

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the definitions and characteristics of service-learning
  • Identify the differences between service-learning, clinical training, and volunteerism
  • Define reflection and its role in service-learning, and name at least two reflection techniques applicable to community health
    nursing
  • Explain how to help students gain a better understanding of civic responsibility
  • Identify specific examples of service-learning in nursing education
  • Describe what placements are appropriate for community health nursing
  • Assess the service-learning component in community health nursing
  • Explain the role of the Center for Community Involvement, the registration process, and data collection requirements of the course

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
