Description:
Each session will feature a research briefing on an innovative teaching method (s) and/or assessment tool in STEM courses. The workshop of an MDC STEM faculty member will be highlighted and that professor will demonstrate how they employ specific methods to enhance student learning of STEM topics. Faculty participants will experience the demonstration, learn about the research, and produce a plan to adapt appropriate elements to their own teaching and assessment. The goal of the workshop is to help participants improve instructional pedagogy by implementing research-based teaching strategies and to improve teaching curriculum by incorporating scientific models.
Workshop participants will receive:
1. guidance and practice in methods of inquiry-based and modeling-based instruction
2. information about drawbacks of the method
3. Strategies to overcome student resistance
 

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain current research in teaching STEM topics 
  • Adapt appropriate teaching methods to their own STEM courses
  • Plan to implement innovative teaching methods in their STEM courses
  • Present authentic assessment tools to determine student learning

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
