Short Title: TESOL Methods

Description:
This 20-hours workshop is designed to help participants prepare or select instructional materials for use with culturally and linguistically diverse learners. Participants will develop and understanding of different approaches to teaching English language learners (ELLs). The format of the workshop is a blend of face-to-face meetings and online instruction (two face-to-face sessions of two hours each, plus 16 hours of online instruction over several weeks). Evaluation will include completion of course activities, interview with and observation of an ESOL teacher and completion of a 5 page paper comparing and contrasting the interview and observation with materials and activities covered in the workshop and the impact on the ELL academic progress.

 Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Identify instructional materials that support ESOL-infused course content for the participant's area of teaching 
• Design an activity for ESOL students for a content area course in the participant's area of teaching 
• Identify the types of language instruction educational programs commonly used to teach ELLs
• Select a language instruction model that is relevant to the participant's area of teaching

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop) 

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
