Description:
This 20-hour workshop is designed to prepare faculty to teach in ESOL-infused Teacher Education Programs. Participants will examine the key issues in assessment of English Language Learners (ELLS) in the academic content areas. The format of the workshop is a blend of face-to-face meetings and online instruction (two face-to-face sessions of two hours each, plus 16 hours of online education instruction over several weeks).

Evaluation will include completion of course activities including online discussion of readings, PowerPoint presentations and webcast videos. For the culminating activity, participants will create an assessment activity in their specialty that can be used with pre-service teachers. The assessment plan is due at the final course meeting. It will be reviewed by the facilitator.
 

Objectives

 As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Identify the critical factors that affect assessment of ELLs
• Recognize the fundamental Principles of assessment of ELLs
• Give examples of authentic, performance-based classroom assessments
• Explain to pre-service teachers how standards affect classroom assessment of Ells
• Create an assessment plan for content area that reflects the principles of ESOL-infused curriculum

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop) 

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
