Description:
During this workshop presenter will address
the following areas of concern: methods of identifying and addressing
misconduct in its various forms both in the classroom and elsewhere on
campus; the relevance and applicability of the code of student conduct;
the rationale for documentation and "how to do it"; the means
for overcoming aversions to the administration of discipline; the pros
and cons of referrals for counseling and mental health services; a perspective
on how to deal with students who are both disruptive and have a
documented psychiatric disability; and strategies of dealing with
serious or dangerous crises.

Objectives
As a result of successful
completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain their rights and responsibilities
when dealing with disruptive students
- Understand the requirement of due
process in dealing with disruptive students
- Describe the advantages and pitfalls
of referring disruptive students for counseling or psychological
services
- Identify important rationales and
practical methods for documenting incidents of student disruption
- Describe essential methods for
minimizing physical risk in dealing with disruptive students
- Explain practical strategies for
dealing with such disruptive behaviors as lateness, chattering,
sleeping in class, plagiarism and acts of rudeness

How to Register
Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and
Registration system. The process for registering for a CTD
workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.
You can access the Registration System and register
for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to
login to your computer. Example: Richard
Johnson would be rjohnson (You will
NOT
need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD
workshop)
Make a note of the Reference Number for the
workshop then go to
Registration Instructions
Once you have registered for a class, you can print your
schedule. Please make every effort to attend once
you've registered as seats are limited.
However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web
Registration screen. CTD classes will
appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
If you need special assistance to
