The workshop will demonstrate the best practices in nursing education and discuss the evidence of improved student learning that underlies these teaching practices. The workshop is a foundation for MDC becoming a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education.
The Medical Campus is pursuing a strategic goal to become certified by the National League for Nursing as a Center of Excellence. This goal is clearly aligned with the MDC Strategic Plan, particularly Goal 1: Review and transform curriculum and its delivery to optimize student access and success, and Goal 2: Strengthen instructional support to optimize student progression and degree/certificate completion.
In support of the strategic goal, the workshop is designed to consist of an 7 hour face-to-face session followed by 2 hours of post-workshop activity. Post-workshop activity will focus on the development of a formal reflection paper in which the participants will identify a minimum of two strategies they can integrate into their teaching practice, and produce a professional development plan that includes scholarship, service and leadership goals. This paper is due within two weeks of the workshop date (due date: 04/12/2012)

 Objectives

  •  Integrate strategies to facilitate learning into their own practice
  •  Foster learner development and socialization
  •  Choose assessment and evaluation strategies for their own learners
  •  Participate in the development of curriculum and evaluate programs outcomes
