Description:
The purpose of this workshop is to increase the knowledge base of faculty in regards to the emergence of resistant organisms, thus providing the faculty with current knowledge about the rise of resistant organisms.  Faculty can use this knowledge to integrate these concepts into their curriculums. This workshop will reinforce the ethical obligations—to do no harm and to protect and advocate for those under our care. During the presentation the faculty will have the opportunity to discuss how their profession safeguards the welfare of their clients in the hospital and community to prevent the spread of hospital acquired and community acquired resistant organisms.  

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Discuss the evolution of resistant organisms with emphasis on Staph aureus and enterrococcus
• Describe recent outbreaks of CA -MRSA
• Identify the impact of antibiotics in the increase of resistant organisms as well as patients with Clostridium difficile (C. difficile)
• Identify how medical procedures and medications can foster the spread of resistant organisms
• Explain the roles of health care professionals as educators and advocates in controlling the spread of resistant organisms in the hospital and community

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
