Description:
This workshop will provide faculty and staff with a deeper understanding of student identify development in college and how these issues impact student success. It will focus on the experiences of the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender (GLBT) student population. Participants will learn how to be an ally to students who are experiencing difficulty as well as how to refer them to appropriate resources for support.
Participants will submit a two-page paper that summaries their understanding of the issues that face GLBT students at the college, including an action step they could take with regard to serving as a student ally an/or providing referrals to appropriate resources. The reaction paper will be submitted to the workshop facilitator within two weeks of the workshop. The facilitator will verify that the paper is complete.
 

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Define the role of "ally" and serve as an ally as appropriate 
• Identify resources of support for GLBT students at the college and in the community
• Explain the issues facing GLBT students in terms of identify development and socio-cultural context

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop) 

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
