Description:
The training plan for Student Advisement will consist of a two hands-on sessions on the use of the Odyssey student system, followed by job shadowing with an Advisor.  In between meetings there will be information available online in an ANGEL course for participants to keep current on the information and get answers to questions that may arise.  The intention is to focus on new student advisement, as that will enable our highly trained Academic Advisors to concentrate on serving continuing students who have more complex advisement issues that need to be addressed. 
 

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  •  Use Odyssey student information system to advise and register students
  •  Understand the college placement tests that are acceptable for consideration in the placement process
  •  Interpret placement test scores and other standardized test scores to ensure proper course level placement
  •  Explain the general education requirements to both AA and AS degree students
  •  Understand when to ask for help from student services personnel

** Advisor Shadowing will take place the week of Oct. 26 on the Campus you serve.  The second Advisor Shadowing will take place the week of Nov. 20th on the Campus you serve.  The Shadowing component is a 4 hour commitment each time and is a required part of the training.

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
