Workshop: Social Media for Student Recruitment

Course ID - CTD0595b

Short Title: Social Media

 Audience    All Employees
Length of Workshop:       2 hours

Educational institutions are looking for the best formula to effectively deal with the plethora of social media available. In fact, no one has drawn a bead on this moving target– and new platforms constantly crowd into the space.  There are so many questions and so few answers. Where should we start? How do we know it works? Where are teens getting their “authentic” information? Is there a place for our institutional voice in all this user-generated content?  All we can say for sure is that participation matters – starting with a commitment to listen and watch closely, to monitor behavior and activity.

Join Jacques Steinberg, New York Times education writer and blogger of The Choice, a site that examines all facets of the college admissions process, Robert Moore, Managing Partner, Lipman Hearne and Gregory Carroll, Vice President for Marketing and Public Relations, Furman University, as they tackle the vast field of social media for student recruitment, research and yield. The highly skilled panel will engage in a lively discussion to include an exploration of leading social media platforms, each with examples about the focus and effectiveness of current efforts.
See article on how Social Media is being used in recruitment and fund raising.

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe ways to use Social Media for recruitment
  • List examples about focus and effectiveness of some current efforts
