Effective Grading and Assessment will focus on strategies for science success.  participants will gain experience in identifying the kinds of learning they want to take place in gen ed, service and majors' science courses and how to construct meaningful assessments of those outcomes.  Strategies for both large and small classes will be examined to engage students in deep science learning.  Systematic collection of goal-oriented data about how students conceptualize science knowledge, processes, attitudes and lab/field skills can serve to inform and improve student performance and facilitate "closing the loop" between science teaching, learning and achievement.

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the kinds of learning they want to take place in gen ed, service and majors' courses
  • Construct meaningful assessments that measure those outcome
  • Develop strategies for large and small classes

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
