Description:
This workshop will update the participants on HIV/AIDS as they pertain
to transmission, prevention, infection control, clinical management, and
regulatory requirements. This session will review the OSHA
Bloodborn Pathogen Standards, its Revised Compliance Directive and the
proposed TB standard. Risk for acquiring blood borne pathogens in
the workplace will also be discussed.
Objectives
As a result of successful
completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the current data regarding the
risk of occupationally acquiring a bloodborne pathogen
- Identify modes of transmission in the
general population and in the health care setting including health
care worker to patient and patient to health care worker
- Recognize the importance of reporting
and occupational exposure
- Describe post exposure protocols for
Hepatitis B, C, D and HIV
- List at least three key elements of
OSHA Training Requirements
- Discuss Preventing exposures as incorporated into
OSHA Respiratory Standard
- Describe the clinical management of
the HIV+ patient, including the use of protease inhibitors
- Interpret the health care workers responsibilities
in complying with current laws and regulations
- Discuss the ethical conflicts that
arise in treating HIV+ clients, TB clients and Hepatitis B and C
clients who are health care workers or in the general population

How to Register
Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and
Registration system. The process for registering for a CTD
workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.
You can access the Registration System and register
for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to
login to your computer. Example: Richard
Johnson would be rjohnson (You will
NOT
need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD
workshop)
Make a note of the Reference Number for the
workshop then go to
Registration Instructions
Once you have registered for a class, you can print your
schedule. Please make every effort to attend once
you've registered as seats are limited.
However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web
Registration screen. CTD classes will
appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
