Description:
This powerful two-day intensive workshop, based on the work of eco-philosopher, Joanna Macy, explores our intimate connection with the world around us and the common threads that weave us together in the web of life. Through a combination of experiential group activities, meditation and discussion, this workshop will deepen our understanding of ourselves and the roles we play as participants in a shift to a life-sustaining society.  This workshop will offer a profoundly transformational experience, bringing us an enhanced awareness of our place in Earth's natural systems and the impact of humans on the environment.  We will explore the ethical implications of the choices we make every day that affect the world around us, and search for a peaceful balance in our relationship with Earth.

Objectives

  • Describe what is meant by the phrase "web of life," particularly as it relates to interconnectedness among species
  • List and describe some lifestyle changes that humans can make which promote a sustainable future
  • Identify and explain an ethical dilemma that you have had to resolve in shifting to a more sustainable lifestyle
  • Explain one way in which your own well-being is connected to the health and vitality of a non-human entity
