Description:
This workshop will include the presentation of specific classroom based research conducted by MDC faculty. The discussion will include a description of the project's research design, purpose, results and the application of the findings. Faculty members will share their insights as to conducting and using classroom based research initiatives designed to improve student learning.

Student Centered, Self directed Learning: a newly designed pedagogy involving a largely self-taught learning strategy customized to MAT0020 college Preparatory Mathematics students. This pedagogy keeps students at the center of the learning environment while allowing the student to progress at his own pace based upon demonstrated mastery of key course competencies

Objectives

As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify examples of classroom based research being conducted at the College
  • Describe the purpose and results of the specific research project presented
  • Identify the various purposes for classroom based research
  • Identify the multiple roles faculty may assume in a research project
  • Explain how to design classroom based research
  • Identify possible research designs that may be utilized
  • Identify CASTL team members as a resource for additional information on how to share research results college-wide

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop) 

Make a note of the Reference Number for the workshop then go to Registration Instructions

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
