Audience:   Faculty, Department Chairs, Community Partners
Length of Workshop:    18 hours
Prerequisite Prior to the workshop, participants should form a team consisting of two to five faculty members from their department, the department chairperson or program manager and a non-profit public sector partner. The team should meet prior to the Institute to complete pre-workshop planning after receiving appropriate instructions by the Center for Community Involvement.

Description:
This Institute/workshop is designed to form partnerships among faculty, department chairs and agency representatives in the interest of promoting engagement and change.  The Institute will realign each department's focus on the community and will help mobilize entire departments around the process of selecting a community issue and working to develop a department-wide, sustainable commitment to that agency/issue.

Objectives

 As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Develop strategies to include community-based work in both their teaching and their scholarship
  • Include community-based experiences as a standard expectation for majors
  • Develop a level of unit coherence that will allow them to model civic engagement and progressive change at the departmental level
  • Describe various discipline-specific models of service-learning integration
  • Support community-based work on both the faculty and student level
  • Determine an array of assessment techniques for community-based work on both the faculty and student level
  • Explain how community-based work is a vehicle of curricular integration
  • Describe how community partners and departments are resources for one another
  • Create a departmental action plan to implement a community-faculty partnership

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop)  The first time you log in to the Registration Page, you will be asked to accept the Use of Computing Resources at Miami Dade College.    The Accept button is located at the bottom of the screen.

PLEASE NOTE:  You do not have to create a student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop.  You can use your regular network login name and password proceeded by the MDCC\   
  1. Go to the MDC Registration Page.
  2. Choose the Term from the dropdown menu.
  3. Enter your PIN number (If you don't remember your PIN, you can reset it by clicking the Update My Pin button.)
  4. Click the  myMDC  Log In button.
  5. Log in  using your regular username and password.  Your username must be proceeded by the MDCC\

ex.   Joe Smith would login in with

User name -  mdcc\jsmith and his regular password.

Once logged in, you should use Speed Registration.  You must know the Reference number for the workshop you want to take.   You can still  search for workshops using the Course ID or Short title, if you click on Shopping Cart.    The best way to register is by  Reference number.

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
