Workshop: Certification Process for Faculty Teaching in The Bachelor of Science Degree Program*

Prerequisite SACS-credentialed to teach program courses

This certification process will equip faculty with the background, knowledge and skills to complement knowledge of their disciplines and experience in the teaching/learning process as they engage students in courses toward the Bachelor of Science.  
The certification process is comprised of three components: a 32 hour workshop held over 5 weeks, completion of a course syllabus that meets the School of Education standards and the development of an Individual Development Plan (IDP) that they will complete by the end of the academic year.  The purpose of the IDP is to assure that all expected competencies are addressed and that individuals will pursue other workshops to develop needed skills (Web CT, Unique and Compelling Applications of the Internet, Faculty Web Page, Cooperative Learning, Learning Communities, Technology in Teaching, etc.). 



As a result of successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a philosophy of education that is consistent and compatible with the philosophy of the School of Education
  • Use their knowledge of State DOE terminology and requirements and School of Education policies and procedures by incorporating them appropriately into their syllabi
  • Synthesize their understanding of the national, Sunshine State and subject standards, CBCs and FEAPs by developing a plan for addressing them in their syllabi
  • Commit to the value of modeling multiple teaching/learning strategies by addressing these strategies in their syllabi
  • Infuse technology throughout the teaching learning process by using their faculty web page, using unique and compelling applications of the Internet for student assignments, coordinating on-line discussion groups, using email with students and using other technologies as appropriate
  • Develop strategies to use in assessing student learning in learning communities, cooperative learning and project based learning
  • Create an electronic portfolio using the School of Education model
  • Commit to their unique roles and responsibilities for preparing students for the FTCE by judiciously validating students'  successful completion of accomplished practices in their electronic portfolios
  • Commit to the expectations for Teacher Educators by adhering to the standards set for Teacher Educators, Field Experiences, special programs under NCLB and current laws

How to Register

Registration for CT&D workshops are through the Student Information and Registration system.  The process for registering for a CTD workshop will be the same as registering for a regular class at MDC.  

New - Easier registration for workshops

You can access the Registration System and register for a CTD workshop using the same user name and password that use to login to your computer.    Example:   Richard Johnson  would be rjohnson     (You will NOT need to create a separate student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop)  The first time you log in to the Registration Page, you will be asked to accept the Use of Computing Resources at Miami Dade College.    The Accept button is located at the bottom of the screen.

PLEASE NOTE:  You do not have to create a student myMDC account to register for a CTD workshop.  You can use your regular network login name and password proceeded by the MDCC\   
  1. Go to the MDC Registration Page.
  2. Choose the Term from the dropdown menu.
  3. Enter your PIN number (If you don't remember your PIN, you can reset it by clicking the Update My Pin button.)
  4. Click the  myMDC  Log In button.
  5. Log in  using your regular username and password.  Your username must be proceeded by the MDCC\

ex.   Joe Smith would login in with

User name -  mdcc\jsmith and his regular password.

Once logged in, you should use Speed Registration.  You must know the Reference number for the workshop you want to take.   You can still  search for workshops using the Course ID or Short title, if you click on Shopping Cart.    The best way to register is by  Reference number.

Once you have registered for a class, you can print your schedule.    Please make every effort to attend once you've registered as seats are limited.     However, If you need to drop, you can also do this through the Web Registration screen.     CTD classes will appear on your transcript as non-credit classes.
