Miami Dade College’s Hialeah Campus will Partner with the City of Hialeah for Emergency Drill Nov. 26

Miami, November 24, 2008 - Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Hialeah Campus will be participating in an emergency drill in collaboration with the City of Hialeah’s emergency services departments on Wednesday, Nov. 26, between noon and 4 p.m. Vehicles and personnel will begin staging earlier in the day. The purpose of this drill is to assess and develop procedures for emergency response in conjunction with City partners.
As mentioned, emergency vehicles and emergency services personnel will be on or around the Campus throughout the day. The Campus has notified its employees, students and surrounding tenants and businesses.
In recent years, MDC has revamped, restructured and enhanced its emergency preparedness and response initiatives. In addition to hiring a college-wide emergency preparedness director, the college has formalized and augmented its written emergency plans, added a text alerts system to keep the college community even better informed of emergencies in addition to communicating to them via the Web, email and other touch-points, and increased its collaboration with municipal, county, state and federal agencies. This latest drill is an example. In addition, on several occasions, the college has hosted the region’s emergency managers and planners for workshops to further enhance mutual aid and cooperation.
